Maternal Fetal specialist

I am 40, and pregnant with my third child [after eight years of trying]. I am two months along. My doctor is sending me to a "Maternal Fetal Specialist". I have no idea what this is. What kinds of things does this kind of doctor do? What kinds of tests? Also, two more questions: What are my chances of having a Down's baby? And secondly, is there ANY other way to know for sure if you're having a Down's baby other than an amniocentisis? My husband and I have decided NOT to have one done. If we have a Down's baby, so be it - we'll love him/her just as much. But I don't want to take the risk of an amnio - even if it's a teeny tiny risk. I've waited too long to finally get pregnant. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Love, Kristy
