Pregnant and chipped tooth and filling

I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and I am worried about my tooth and part of an old filling that chipped last week. I am not sure of the name of the type of filling but I know that it is old and silver. I have read that work on amalgram fillings should be avoided during pregnancy because of the danger of the mercury it contains. Could this have exposed any danger to the fetus? Could this cause any potential danger leaving it the way it is? My doctor told me to wait until after the first trimester to get dental work done. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
