PitocinFrom: Lacy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Apr 2001 06:24:07 -0500 (CDT)
RE: Pitocin Listen to the doctors in this forum. I had a pitocin-induced birth because I was over a week past my due date. I tried walking, but that just made my feet hurt. My friend said I should try enemas, but I didn't want to have diarrhea, so I didn't use any. Sex? I was definitely *not* in the mood. When I asked my doctor what to do, she said just relax. When I finally did *relax* and let go of the nervousness and trying to control the process, I started having contractions on my own. So my doctor was right. If you want to make your feet hurt from walking or deal with diarrhea from herbal laxatives and enemas, be my guest. But it is not guaranteed to do anything other than make you more uncomfortable. If you have to have your labor induced, plan on having an epidural. The contractions don't build up gradually like a normal labor; you will be propelled into active labor instantly. But on the up side, if you have an epidural, you can laugh and talk your way through the birth, and actually *enjoy* it without the pain. In my book, that is worth every inch of the tiny catheter in the lower back! :-)
