Thank you so much for your time. I am not a doctor but I'm sure they will confirm: Your period was not actually late, your ovulation was. The period from the time you ovulate until your period is called your luteal phase. This period of time is almost always the same amount of days. Day one of your cycle up until you ovulate can vary in days. This is the variation you probably had. May I suggest the book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" It is a great book, and helps you to understand your cycles by ways of taking your tempature. If you were taking your tempature you would see that your period was probably on time and you ovulated a few days later. I hope this helps.
