Period while BreastfeedingFrom: Anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Apr 2001 22:30:11 -0500 (CDT)
I have a 7 month old son whom I am breastfeeding. I thought I started my period yesterday because I had some staining and some pink discharge when I wiped. I also have been having pains in my right lower quadrant, which I thought were cramps. Since my initial staining, I haven't had any sign of a bleeding, but I still have moderate to occasionally severe pain in my right lower quadrant. I have had this pain for a couple of weeks, along with sore breasts and other generic PMS symptoms. I initially thought I might be pregnant, but a hpt was negative. (I am not using any birth control because of years of infertility.) My questions are: 1. When your period returns while nursing, is it commonly very light? 2. Is there another possible reason for the staining? 3. Should I see my doctor about the pain/spotting or just assume it's benign unless the pain gets more severe and/or I run a fever? Thank you in advance for your help.
