Klonopin and pregnancy

I understand that klonopin is not recommended for chronic anxiety for the first timester because of the possibility of cleft lip or cleft pallet and not recommended for the final trimester because of potential respiratory issues for the fetus. What is a safe drug alternative? If there is not one, when in the trimesters is it less or more of a risk, and why? And, is this a dose-related issue? I am not taking any now, but would sleep and feel better if I could take .5mg a day.
