PCOS and 8wk pregFrom: AliceB (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 3 Apr 2001 14:45:10 -0500 (CDT)
I have PCOS, and am right at 8 weeks pregnant. A week ago, I had an ultrasound which showed a fetal heartbeat of 140. I have never missed a period but my cycle length has always been a little irregular. I conceived naturally and have never been on Metformin or progesterone suppliments. I don't think my OB tested my progesterone levels at that appointment but I have read that low progesterone levels are the main reason that miscarriage is so high in women with PCOS. From what I understand, miscarriage in normal women becomes less of a concern once a good hearbeat is found on ultrasound. Am I far enough along now to breathe a sigh of relief that I have "escaped" the increased miscarriage risk associated with PCOS? I realize that miscarriage is still something of a concern until the second trimester, but I was wondering if my risk is any higher than other women, given my current stage of pregnancy?
