Here is what my doctor told me.... at 13 weeks you can start to see male/female parts if you could see the baby directly but not with ultrasound. We did have an ultrasound done by a perinatalogist at 13 weeks and she showed us what she thought were the faint signs of a boy but she says she cannot be sure until after about 17 weeks and then only if the baby is in the right position. I had 3 ultrasounds with my first (2nd and 3rd trimester) and they could never tell because she was never in a good position... so she was a surprise!
