second opinion: criteria for inducment?From: abaxter (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 2 Apr 2001 11:03:10 -0500 (CDT)
Hello... I am 41 weeks plus 1 days pregnant (8 days post date) in a healthy preg with no complications. My doctor wants to induce my on Wednesday night, 10 days after my due date. He did not offer to do a "non-stress test" or estimate the size of baby or anything else. On Mar 27, I was not dilated, and cervix was still soft but posterior. That being said, what are some sound criteria for deciding to induce? What tests/questions, if any, should my doctor perform before deciding to induce me? The baby I'm carrying does not appear (according to midwife) to be large at all, and I am continuing to enjoy all sorts of exercise and activity with no problem. The baby is moving well, I do not have sugar or blood pressure problems. While I do not wish to buck the medical establishment or anything, I'm very hesitant to get induced if not necessary. All in all, I'm very concerned that this decision is being made based on his schedule, not on medical grounds. I appreciate your thoughts on this. best regards, a. baxter
