Bacterial Vaginosis and Spotting

I'm 13 weeks LMP. Last Friday I saw my OB/GYN for a suspected infection. At that time he did a culture and said I had bacterial vaginosis, but did not perscribe anything at that time.

3 days later I began having occasional brown discharge (once or twice a day) that looked like it had old blood in it. At first I assumed it was from the exam, but it did not stop. After 4 days I called my doctor, and he said it was most likely from the infection itself. He perscribed flagyl.

Is this sort of discharge typical with BV, and if so, how long should it take the flagyl to make the spotting stop? I'm just on my 3rd dose.
