is motilidone safe to take while pregnantFrom: jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Mar 2001 09:55:42 -0600 (CST)
i am expecting in august. am still nursing samuel who will be two soon. motilidone was given when sam was newborn. he refused to nurse for first 6 wks. and as i was pumping pediatrician explained pumping is not same action as baby sucking, therefore wasnt surprise lactation had decreased. she offered this motilidone explaining that its for stomache ailment, but was found to have side effect of increased milk production. info from label says take one three times daily motilidone 90 mg (for motdomperidone dunno what that means we tried it and after 2 wks. i got the baby nursing. (that after pediatrician said he's now bottle baby at month old appt. :) the motilidone was set aside. the problem is milk is reduced to nothing. i cleared nursing while pregnant (after some acquaintances scolded me for doing so) with both pediatrician and ob (pediatrician wanted to see sam get atleast 20 oz. of milk or equivalent daily as she assumed my milk would be reduced during pg we dont know by how much. she said average amount of breast milk would have been 30 oz. but now that im pg, good guess is its cut atleast by half if not more, so reduction needs compensation... at time of the appt. i didnt anticipate milk would almost disappear like it has, so didnt think to ask about this; ob gave me ok to nurse, said no harm would come to unborn baby). am intending to tandem nurse. live over 2 hrs drive to the city. am not due for another appt for a few wks. would like to take this stuff to get milk going (sam is pulling hard on tender nipples trying in vain) but am wondering is it contraindicated during pregnancy? many thnx in advance for this. jenn
