I have noticed a few postings on premature babies and would like to share my experience. I had 1 full term, 1 m/c at 16 weeks, 1full term, 1 overdue then was pregnant with twins...I was told by the ob/gyn that I would more than likely go into labour once the two babies reached the full term weight of a singleton...because I had had babies before. I was on light duties from the scan at 16 weeks which determined the twins, I was admitted because a houseman thought that I was dilating, which proved not to be the case, my consultant hoped that I could go beyond 30 weeks, a critical point I believe, by this time there really wasn't much room. At 32 weeks my waters broke at 3 am I went into hospital, but by 6am my contractions had all but stopped, I was re-started by drip, had an epidural at 9am because they said it would be an easier birth for the babies, which it was... they were born around mid-day one weighing 3lb12 the second 3lb10 neither needed more than a quick breath of oxygen at birth, I wasn't given anything to mature the lungs, however they could both breathe unaided, and apart from a little jaundice both were allowed home after a month in special care, now they are healthy 13 year olds. My advice is the same as I was given, try to last as long as possible, the figure of 30 weeks seems to be an almost magical one, however many babies born before...some as early as 26 weeks made it whilst I was there, the numbers just aren't quite so good....
