I had a baby boy at 31.2 weeks. Previous to delivery I had had 2 steroid injections. His lungs were still not mature and he was diagnosed with the Hylane (sp?) membrane disease and spent 3 days on a ventilator. They also treated him with some kind of surfactant ..... then he was on O2 for 6 weeks. He is absolutely normal now and after a slow start was a totally normal baby too. They can do amazing things for premature babies even when their lungs are not mature. I was told by the doctors that girl premies usually do much better than boy premies.... I saw this myself because the girl premie next to my son in the NICU who was also born at 31 weeks was off the O2 in a week and if I recall went home after 2-3 weeks. Also, my doctor was just hoping I could hang on until 34 weeks because after that the babies usually do really well... didn't happen but maybe it will be good for you. I really hope everything goes well for you and your baby.
