Amnio results for lung maturity Q's???From: Alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 24 Mar 2001 19:58:40 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I am 33w1d with a girl. I have IDGDM, onset 9 wks (I know.. more like previously undiagnosed diabetes but that's what they're calling it!) I am also pre-eclamptic. My blood pressures are hovering just at /100 diastolic & protein dip at +1. My BP during the first half of pregnancy had been 100/65. I have been told a diastolic of /110 or protein dip of 2+ will warrant delivery irregardless of fetal maturity. We did an amnio today and the preliminary result value was 7. The range that was mentioned was 39-54 = inconclusive & 55+ = mature. I believe this was mg/G of surfectant? The peri had mentioned that because of my diabetes the preliminary results were not reliable. I did have two steroid shots, 24 & 48 hrs prior to the amnio. Which way, and by how much, does diabetes typically affect the preliminary amnio results vs. the 24 hour test? Just how immature are these lungs? Seven seems so far from 55, let alone 39. It seems to me that it will be at least 4 or 5 weeks before these lungs are mature, and I doubt my pre-eclampsia will hold out that long. Is there any point in doing more steroid shots? Thank you so much, Alison R.
