There is some controversy surrounding amniotic bands. Current thinking is that true amniotic bands are more likely related to congenital abnormalities as opposed to actual bands from the amnion trapping portions of the fetus as the gestation progresses. In other words, things may have started out this way, involving the amnion and fetus, resulting in the issues in fetal development.

The liklihood of a recurrence would be extremely rare. I would not be concerned... Lynn
