Jenn: So you're appalled are you? As someone who knows just how worrying not hearing a heartbeat when you're supposed to is for a pregnant woman, I am appalled at your response to this poor woman's plight. God forbid you should ever be in such a horrendous position, but if you were, would you just happily wait for your doctor to actually do something or would you do as this woman has done -- try several times to get some help, realize she has sub-standard medical "care" and have to take her medical "care" into her own hands. As Dr. Montgomery's post says, this woman's doctor is putting her through "unnecessary and cruel" treatment. Changing doctors is the obvious solution, but doesn't take care of her immediate crisis -- that of not hearing her precious baby's heartbeat when she should be able to. I believe the horror of waiting outweighs any unethical concerns and she should do whatever she can to find out what's going on with her child. By the way, she won't be lying when/if she goes to the hospital -- she'll be telling the truth. The truth is that her doctor is not caring for her or her child and she needs some answers immediately. Try to put yourself in this woman's position mentally -- then try to guess what you'd do in her place. My guess is that you'd do whatever it takes to make sure your baby is healthy.

Sincerely, Lisa P.
