amniotic band syndromeFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 21 Mar 2001 17:56:50 -0600 (CST)
I lost my first pregnancy last year. The baby had encephalocele, and after he was born they also discovered missing fingers on his right hand, and a deformity with the rt. ear and rt. shoulder. They chalked it up to amniotic band syndrome because my 7-week u/s had confirmed a small tear in the sac, and they figured that all the problems were probably caused by the bands. I am now pregnant again and wondering if anyone knows what the re-occurrence rates are for ABS. I've done research and all I learned is that it's extremely rare. I've been less active this pregnancy because I didn't want to do anything too strenuous and cause another tear. If anyone else who posts here has experienced this problem and then had a healthy baby later, it would really reassure me. Thank you.
