low progesterone & very confused

Just this past month saw a fertility specialist after not conceiving on my own for a year+. I used the fertility monitor this month & got a peak on CD12 & CD13. Have been charting my temperature & it is very clearly biphasic (shows ovulation at CD12) & is actually looking triphasic this month. I am currently on CD20 & 8DPO. I had a vaginal ultrasound on CD12 & my doctor said my lining looked terrific & my follice size was 19mm which was also "perfect". Well...yesterday I had a progesterone test at 7DPO & it came back a 5. I am very sad to find this out because all my other tests looked so good. The nurse called me in a prescription for crinone 8% once a day which I started using last night. My question is with a number 5 progesterone test does that mean I did not ovulate although I had all the other signs or did I ovulate & have a "bad" egg? Why would my temperature continue to rise if my progesterone is so low? Could my hyperthyroid problem (another issue) affect progesterone tests, or is there any other factors that could affect the results of a progesterone test? Could I have possibly of conceived with that low number & if I did could I possibly maintain a pregnancy. If I get my period would it be better for me to take clomid & if I had a 5 this month can I be pretty sure I have had low progesterone for awhile & should I assume I will continue to have this problem without drug assistance. Very grateful to you all in advance, Alisa
