fibroid & past 40From: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 Mar 2001 18:46:50 -0400
My husband and I would like to have a 2nd child. I had my first at 39. I am now quickly approaching 43. However, I have a huge fibroid (it was slightly smaller when I was pregnant), which on ultrasound appears to be on a stalk outside my uterus (posterior). My doctor says before I conceive I should have the fibroid removed -- she has degeneration concerns. I feel if I'm going to conceive at all I had better get cracking. What are the risks either way? What would you recommend? At my age is the possiblity of conceiving (I'm not going to do any type of intervention to conceive) so small that I should forget the risks of surgery and forget trying to get pregnant?
