1st ultrasound after IVF-ET: vanishing twin?From: Milissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 14 Mar 2001 16:08:02 -0600 (CST)
Yesterday was 6wks exactly. Saw two sacs: one w/heartbeat & embryo; the other with yolk sac but no embryo. Baby A is ahead of schedule--measuring in like a baby at 6 weeks, 4 days. The sac measured 1.2 x 0.9 x 1 cm., with the yolk sac at 0.6 cm. The crown-rump length was also 0.6 cm and its heartbeat a whopping 102 bpm (the range is 85-140). However, Baby B's sac is 0.6 x 0.5 cm (only measured this one in two dimensions) and the yolk sac was 0.4 cm. Again, no embryo; no hb. Another u/s is scheduled for next Tuesday, primarily to check on Baby B. Questions: 1) Possibility of "vanishing twin" (please explain answer)? 2) Is that a BIG difference in chorionic sac size? Does this more strongly indicate possibility of Baby B perhaps vanishing? 3) General comments on this situation? Pictures are at the "InVitro" link of http://www.westga.edu/~mellison Go to the link that says "Twins?!" Thanks (and anxiously...),
