I've not heard of this amount for what you state. Ask your doctor for medical references or his/her reasoning.

Occasionally some bleeding. Without proven anti-phospholipid antobody syndrome (APA), aspirin shouldn't be any better than placebo.

Not at all. It reduces inflammatory/immune response which result in clotting of small vessels (with APA) and is a mild anticoagulant.
