Re: Weight Gain & Pre-EclampsiaFrom: Alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Mar 2001 19:34:03 -0600 (CST)

> Sorry, I will try to be more to the point. I have gest. diabetes, onset at 9wks & started insulin at 12 wks. At 22 1/2 weeks I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia my BP was 150/90 with +1 protein and pitting edema. (I was induced last pregnancy at 34 1/2 weeks for pre-eclamspia.) I was put on home bedrest and have complied. At 28 weeks my weight was negative 1 pound. I had lost 1 pound since I conceived. At my appointment at 30 weeks I had gained 5 pounds. This was a Thursday. The following Monday, I had gained an additional 4 pounds. The following Thursday, at exactly 31 weeks, I gained yet another 4 pounds. I am a little bit puffy, but not what I would consider 13 pounds worth of puffy. What is the weight gain associated with pre-eclampsia if it is not water weight? I would think my edema would be much more pronounced with such a drastic weight gain so suddenly. Thanks, again! ;-) Alison R.
