Re: Approx 26 weeks pregnant and haven't been to a doctorFrom: swirlgirl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 7 Mar 2001 10:59:57 -0600 (CST)
Hi Carmen, I understand how you feel. I suggest going to Planned Parenthood and telling them that you want prenatal care since you want to keep the baby now. They should be able to provide you with some information. I'm in California and there is a Medi-Cal program for pregnant women. I think you can go to your local Social Services office and they can give you emergency medical coverage for pregnancy. If you are working and do not qualify b/c of income or whatever, there is another program called AIM for working women but I think there is a cut-off as far as how far along you are in your pg. It's worth checking out, too. I also come from a strict Catholic family and I was 18 when I had my first son!!! It was very difficult and I didn't have prenatal care until I was about 24 weeks (six months or so). My son was fine but I went into preterm labor and had him at 35 weeks. Not trying to scare you but I felt fine up until then. He was around 6 lbs. but I didn't know I had gestational diabetes and he had low blood sugar. All is fine now (I'm 26 and happily married and expecting my 4th son). This is something that you will get through! Take care! If you want, pls. email me at swirlgirl00@go.com.
