Re: HSM, MD. Giving inadequate answers......From: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Mar 2001 15:18:47 -0600 (CST)
Dear all, first off, thanks for the help that you are providing. Obgyn.net IS a wonderful resource, and the volunteer experts are doing an excellent job overall. This said, and without wanting to further instigate a flame war: I've been reading/posting here for over a year now, and while the doctors/nurses definitely have the right not to answer certain questions (may they be unanswerable over the web, archived, or unclear), I've received (and seen others receive) responses that were pointless, unhelpful, and sometimes plain rude. Of course they never say plain out "what a moronic question", but there's more than one way to express this. I too am exasperated by women asking whether they are pregnant without even having taken an HPT, but most of us really are asking for a good reason. I am a Ph.D. candidate with 3 M.D.s in my immediate family, so I have many resources, but if I'm still clueless, shouldn't my question be given a certain level of respect? I too resent getting answers like "Why do you want to know this?", or "Why would you do this???", just to then have my explanation ignored. (No, I'm not making these up.) I teach college, and I'd be in trouble soon if I answered every annoying questions in ways that I have sometimes seen here. Respectfully, Anna
