due to my being high risk, and spotting since my third week, my doctor immediately did a vag. u. my doc is the high risk specialist for our area. he stated that you really can't see anything until 6 weeks (form / heart beating). i had another a week later (they had me two weeks farther along than i was), which put me at 6wks3days. since i knew better, i wasn't too flipped when i saw this empty sac magnified on the screen. i told him that i KNEW i was only 4wks3days and asked if that would be why they can't see anything yet. he said that at 6wks, the sac should be about 6cm. mine was 1.4cm (compared to 0.9cm the week before). sure enough, monday, at 5wks6days, there was the little form inside the sac and we could see the heart beating away.

as for how far along you are: the problem is that they go by the first day of your last period at the doc's when determining how far along you are. if you are on the net and do a pregnancy calendar search, irregardless of wether you use that date, or your actual conception date, you will get the same due date. basically, there's some important preparation between that date and the actual conception date, without which pregnancy would not be possible, which is why it's included. (also, most women don't know the actual conception date.) for example, the first day of my last period was dec. 26th. i know for a fact that the conception date was the 9th of jan. my due date is oct 2nd. the doc and i agree on all of these dates, but when you ask how far along, they'll say 8 wks, i'll say 6wks. we're both right.

hope this helps, and that you have a happy, healthy pregnancy.
