Dr being too conservative about swimming??

OK, I hate to second guess my doctor's opinion, but...

I am 34 weeks, 3 days pregnant. At 31 weeks, I had complained about having a lot of braxton hicks one day, following an internal exam earlier in the day. During the vaginal u/s, my cervix was found to be 3 cm with slight funneling. At first the doctor said to just stick with swimming and stop using the treadmill. But when I called later that evening complaining of braxton hicks, they examined me at the hospital (no contractions were found, cervix closed and unchanged) and he told me NO exercise, not even swimming, til 36 weeks!

Today, at over 34 weeks,I went in for checkup and had vag ultrasound again. Cervix is fine--closed, not funneling, 26 mm. Doctor was very happy with that and said so. I have a few bh contractions every day, but nothing bothersome or painful. Do not have any other symptoms. Surprisingly, when I asked if I could resume swimming only, he said NO, and said we shouldn't change anything at this point, so just stick with not exercising at all.

He is happy with my cervix and thinks the length is fine. So what's the matter with swimming?

I've been on my feet plenty around the house, despite not exercising, and yet my cervix is still fine...so I'm frustrated that he's saying not to even swim. I don't mind cutting out the treadmill or walking or whatever. But swimming? I thought that non-weight-bearing exercise was supposed to be a good during pregnancy, and I've been swimming long distances for years. I hate feeling like an invalid for no reason...

Thanks for your thoughts...
