Healing from a 3rd degree tear--doctor's adviceFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 3 Feb 2001 19:59:49 -0600 (CST)
I had my son 5 months ago and suffered 2 tears--an episiotomy that tore at the entrance of my vagina and about 2 inches back, another tear. At my 6 week postpartum the doc said all was well. Well, all is not well. The episotomy seems to be healed, but the tear farther back still causes me terrible pain during intercourse. My husband says he can feel the scar--like a skin flap or a rough area that he rubs against and it causes me a lot of pain. This tear still aches sometimes, too. Is this normal? How long will it take before it's better or before I should see a doctor about it? Since having my baby I have had a Urinary Tract Infection that has not gone away despite 10 days of IV antibiotics, 2 week long courses of antibiotics, and an entire month on Cipro. If my tear is not reallyu healed, could that contribute to my eternal UTI? I thought 5 months after having a baby, I'd be able to tolerate intercourse again and feel better. Thank you for your help.
