Ectopic Pregnancy and very slowly reducing hcg levelsFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 2 Feb 2001 11:40:18 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy on 10/31 (hcg 191) and since then have been treated with 3 separate doses of methotrexate. My hcg level started going down after the 3rd dose and continually went down for 7 weeks (to 86). The next week it rose to 92, the next week to 139 (1/16). I then had an ultrasound and laparoscopy (to view an enlarged ovary which they thought might be an ovarian pregnancy which turned out to be a cyst) and my hcg just prior to the laparoscopy was 169. Tubal dye showed clear tubes and 3 days after the laparoscopy my hcg was 129. If the number increases again, I will need to have more drug treatment (either methotrexate or actinomycin). I am concerned about taking this many doses of methotrexate (or any other drug, for that matter) as I have read that 2 doses should usually take care of this and I'm not comfortable with the drugs and their potential side effects. Any advice anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
