? for a doctor about variations in fetal heartbeatFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 1 Feb 2001 18:48:35 EST
I posted the other day, but wanted some more info on normal decels/accelerations in pregnancy. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and the baby's baseline is "normally" in the 150's. I have a babybeat doppler, and notice that from time to time (I can usually find it daily) the heartrate drops very suddenly...skipping a couple beats, then increases back to it's baseline. The whole process takes about 5 seconds. I have talked to my doctor about it, and they are ordering a level 2 ultrasound in 3 weeks, but she said this is very common in pregnancy. Any other advice on this would be helpful, as I have found tons of research on accelerations with movement (which I have) and decels with labor, but nothing much during pregnancy. How common is it, and when or should I even be concerned? Thanks for you answers. Needing some more peace of mind! Julie
