I am now 12 weeks and 4 days pg. One of my "symptoms" has been an irregular heart beat. I wasn't all that worried about it because I had it with my 1st pregnancy too and everything turned out fine. BUT it does seem to be lasting further into my pg. this time. When ever it "feels" irregular, I get real drained and feel terrible. At my first dr. visit I mentioned it to the maturnity nurse...she didn't seem worried but wrote it in my chart. I failed to mention it to the DR. (I thought he was reading it in my chart, but now realize he probably didn't see it). I had another appointment yesterday. I mentioned it to the Dr. (different one than the first time). He said I could go to a cardiologist and they could monitor me for 24 hrs. and then try to figure it out, OR he (this dr.) could check my thyroid and if that was normal, just kinda wait it out and see what happens. I asked what he would suggest (not really wanting to see a cardiologist if it wasn't necessary) He said, probably just keep an eye on it, but he did want to check my thyroid. So I went and had blood drawn. WELL, I wasn't expecting anything to be wrong because I had my thyroid checked a few months ago (while still trying to conceive) to make sure nothing was wrong and it all came back okay. WELL, they just called and everything they checked (I don't remember the names but it was about three different things) came back abnormal and I need to go to an endocrinologist (sp?). My appt. is for 3:00 next Wed. The lady said that I needed to get it straightened out and probably will be put on medication to do so. If I don't it could "affect" the pg. I don't know exactly what the thyroid problems I'm having are, but was wondering if someone could explain why I may be having this problem now (in pg.) when I didn't seem to be having them before. My appt. is a week away, is there anything I should or should not be doing in that time? I've been experiencing this "symptom" since about 7 or 8 weeks of pregnancy, could damage have been caused to my baby? As I stated before, I had this with my first pregancy (in first trimester)but I don't think my thyroid was ever checked. I later had to be induced (6 weeks early) due to pre-eclampsia, could these 2 things have been connected or are they completely separate problems? What should I expect when I go to the endocrinologist? Basically, I know nothing and any input/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
