pelvic exams and preterm laborFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 31 Jan 2001 23:45:42 -0600 (CST)
I am currently 6 months with #3 and am curious about when I should ask for a pelvic exam. I have a history of preterm labor with both prior pregnancies. #1 started at 31 weeks, #2 at 28 weeks. By time of delivery I was dilated to 5 with both. Also both labors were less than 3 hours. Last was 2 hours. Both labors were basically painless contractions and water had to be broken. I did not know that I was dilating. I have already been diagnosed with having contractions at 19 weeks and put on bed rest. At that time there was no cervical changes, but I have not been checked since then. I still feel contractions, pressure, and cervical mucous consistant with that of thinning out. With this history when should I expect to have an exam or ask for one. I am afraid that if I don't get checked I may not make it to the hospital or other complications may arise. I am a high risk pregnancy for other problems....Asthma, Mitral Valve Prolapse, Hypertension, hypothyroidism, and Wolffe Parkinsons White syndrome. Thanks for input
