Risk of incompetent cervix after 28 weeks?From: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Jan 2001 16:55:06 -0600 (CST)
I am 28 weeks along. I have been monitored from the beginning of this pregnancy for a possible incompetent cervix. I delivered a baby at 24 weeks due to an infection but the maternal-fetal specialist didn't think the infection was a result of an incompetent cervix. As a precaution, I have been getting transvaginal ultrasounds checking cervical length and for signs of funneling or beaking. Everything has looked good thus far and the cervix is well within normal range being 4.5 cm. Yesterday the doctor said that all looked good and that he didn't need to see me anymore as the risk of an incompetent cervix is minimal at this point and then changes in the cervix after 30 weeks is not significant because things start changing then. I am sure going to miss my peri though. I am happy to be deemed as well enough not to be monitored anymore but am still a bit nervous. So, what is the chance of the cervix becoming incompetent after 28 weeks? Thank you so much!
