Revised: FSH & Infertility

I just turned 37 years old and have been seeing an Infertility Specialist since April 2000. I had a laparoscopy in June 2000 where they found scarring on my right fallopian tube, as well as mild endometriosis. My left tube and uterus are fine (good lining when I have my ultrasounds) and I am ovulating. I should also mention that my period runs like clockwork, every 28/29 days. I completed 3 rounds of Chlomid (100mg) and then moved on to 2 rounds of Follistim. My FSH level last April (Day 3) was 4.4. In June (day 3) it was 10.2 and then on day 10 that month it was 6.6 with an estradoil of 591, which they said was fine. I was about to begin my 3rd round of Follistim last month but had to go on the birth control pill instead because of some cysts. I finished taking the pill about 10 days ago, they did the ultrasound and the cysts are gone. They did my bloodwork and said that my Day 3 FSH is 28. Now my doctor says there is no chance to continue any treatment with that FSH level and I should consider donor egg or adoption.

Could the birth control pill have any impact on this reading? Should I get a second opinion? I read an article by Dr. Wulf Utian, M.D., PhD., Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cleveland where he says, "FSH testing on a woman on birth control pills is meaningless, although some providers don't seem to realize it. You need to stop the pills and wait for your hormones to normalize. I would measure it about 3 to 4 weeks later. Any input you may have is greatly appreciated. I feel as though I have just hit a brick wall.
