Hi, We are somewhere between the 35th and 37th week (debate between our dates and ultrasound findings)and have just had our 4th US to check on the baby's size. He is estimated at 8lbs with a head that is at 44weeks in size. He is also still in Frank Breech position. My husband has a very large head and my daughter, although only 8lbs when born, also had a large head at birth (about 43week growth) >From our reading and discussion with our doctor, we agree that trying to
turn the baby is important and that given the size of his head attempting a breech vaginal delivery should not be considered. I would like to hear more about the "version" procedure and other Mom's experience's with attempts to turn breech babies. (Yes, I know it is quite painful.) I can't seem to find a good description of what is done. My other questions assume that we are able to turn him. What are your thoughts about the size of his head, are there things I should be checking into? Could the size of his head indicate possible birth defects? We have a great doctor and I will be discussing with him but I like to do my own research as well. What about his size? I have anywhere between 3 to 5 weeks to go. What are your thoughts about inducing labour when the baby gets to a certain size? I feel reasonably comfortable with a 9lb or even 10lb baby but my husband has an uncle who was 12lbs AND had a big head. Yes, this scares me!
