Is some funneling at 31 weeks a concern?

Hi,

I am 31 weeks 4 days pg, and at my 31 week appt my ultrasound tech decided to check my cervix because I mentioned that I often feel a lot of pressure and braxton hicks when I'm on the treadmill, and have felt a lot of pressure for a couple. The vaginal ultrasound indicated that there was some "funneling" of the cervix. Length of cervix is 3 cm. No dilation has occurrred. No contractions occured when I was monitored for contractions for 6 hours. Dr. and midwife said stay off feet and no activity till this Friday, when they will check the cervix again.

They also gave me some brethine, but I've not needed to take it as I have not had any more braxton hicks problems for the past couple days. I've been resting around the house since Monday.

Does this sound like preterm labor? Is funneling at 31 weeks common? If I'm good and stay off my feet, would swimming be a good substitute exercise? I love the pool and never feel any discomfort or pressure on days when I swim. I'm not experiencing any BH contractions, but I'm laying/sitting at home to be safe. This is my first pregnancy.

Thanks for your thoughts! acb
