Cervix in pregnancyFrom: Alexa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 16 Jan 2001 02:47:48 -0600 (CST)
Before I got pregnant I used to check my cervix quite often to check for fertility signs etc., so I kind of know how it usually feels. It is always very low and I can easily touch it with my index finger, feel the closed opening and the length of the cervix. Now I am 13 weeks pregnanct and this week I checked my cervix, because I had so much vaginal discharge and CM I was kind of curious to see what's happening to the cervix (I know, not such a great idea). Well, I could hardly reach the cervix, it is very high up, could not feel the opening and the cervix seemed to me very short. Last week I had an appointment with the OB/GYN, we heard the heartbeat, but the doc never checks routinely the cervix in pregnancy, so I don't know what he would have felt. I am having menstrual cramps and pelvic pressure since onset of pregnancy, but the doc seems not concerned. Could the way I feel my own cervix (as a non-professional) mean there is a problem with shortening of the cercix, incompetent cervix or anything else? Should I call my doctor? Or is this a normal appearance of a pregnant cervix?
