Efficacy of Bedrest

Good morning,

I am 32, G5P2(1SAB 1 TAB)Currently 23 wks into this pgcy. GDM onset 9 wks, insulin 12 wks, no confirmed history of GDM, family history positive. Child #1 normal pregnancy. Child #2, new father, developed PIH at 33 wks, induced at 34w5d w/ bp ranging 140-160/90-110, +3 protein & facial edema.

Now it appears the PIH has returned very early. Baseline BP 90/60. Office visit at 22w4d bp taken x3- 150/90, 150/90, 140/80, trace protein and slight pitting edema on my ankles. Have been ordered to strict bedrest for the duration.

On bedrest my bp's are down considerably. Averaging 120/82 approximately. I am committed to bedrest emotionally as well as socially. We have hired help coming in to assist with other children & my diet needs.

My fear is that last time my symptoms started the same as this and rapidly progessed even though I was hospitalized. (The decision for induction was influenced by amnio confirming mature lungs.) I am so darn early this time. I am wondering just how effective bedrest is? I know there are no answers. Is hospitalization inevitable? (I realize it is for delivery LOL!) What is a reasonable goal here? And most importantly, is there some way I can blame this on my mother-in-law? Since I didn't get this until I married her son it MUST be her fault! :::grin::::

Thank you so much, Alison Rapp
