Next pregnancyFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 13 Jan 2001 14:30:02 -0600 (CST)
I delivered a healthy son in September after a difficult pregnancy (Lupus flare, kidney stones, gestational diabetes, prednisone use, hyperemisis and a broken foot.) The pregnancy was a surprise after 3 years of trying and being told by a RE that we'd most likely need IVF to become pregnant because of my husband's sperm count and my anovulatory cycles. My husband's count was normal, but he had very low motility and mobility and many of his sperm had misshapen heads. My MFM doctor wants me to wait 2 years before trying to conceive again (to make sure my Lupus is under control and my kidney stones/infections/nephritis aren't causing a problem), but I don't see the point because it took us so long to get pregnant and I don't want to wait 2 years then have to wait 3 or more years to get pregnant again. My questions: do sperm counts ever improve or can I be fairly confident that my husband still has the same problem and we just got lucky? How long, really, do I need to wait before trying to conceive again and what would happen if I got pregnant sooner than my MFM doctor would like? What do I need to do (medically speaking) before trying to conceive? Thank you for your help.
