3 cm dilated-how much more can I dilate until contractions?

At today's check up I am almost 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. Last week
I was 1-2 cm and 70%. Just how much can a woman dilate before going
into actual labor? The baby is low and the doctors are very pleased with
the progress. It doesn't look like he's going to be a big baby
either.Can I expect a quick labor? Thanks, Mandy 38 1/2 weeks
