'Post-partum severe preeclampsia' - is there really such a thing??From: Michele (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Jan 2001 15:49:44 -0600 (CST)
I've asked several questions in this forum during my pregnancy, and have always gotten great answers. I thought this would be over with by now, but since not, I've got a question or two. I had labor induced because of MILD preeclampsia almost two weeks ago. I was sent home after three days-everything was fine. Two days after I was discharged from the hospital, my blood pressure started rising, to 180/110. I went to my doctor, who found I had a moderate headache, upper-right quadrant pain, blurry vision, and my reflexes were "hyper." He sent me to the emergency room for labs and tests and medicine-everything came back negative. So, he put me on Phenobarbitol and Labetolol. Now, my only symptoms are elevated blood pressures - 160's/90's, a moderate headache, and the hyper reflexes. My doctor said that while I only had MILD preeclampsia before I delivered, he's calling this "post-partum SEVERE preeclampsia." Everything I've read says that preeclampsia goes away when you deliver the baby. My questions are these: is this pregnancy related? And, when will it go away? My doctor's a really nice guy, but I'm getting tired of seeing him! Thanks, Michele
