pcos & ReflexologyFrom: anon.. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 9 Jan 2001 06:03:48 -0600 (CST)
Hi, i have read many articals from readers about pcos and hearing success stories so i want to share a story that i read in a recent Health Complimentary Journal. A woman had been suffering from pcos and had been suffering irregular periods since the age of 13. When she went on the Contraceptive pill, it masked her symptoms but she had regular 28 day cycles. When she stopped at 26, she failed to gain a period. When her and her husband ttc, she went on clomid and it regulated her cycle but she did not always ovulate. She eventually got pregnant but unfortunately she miscarried. After this event, she decided to have a break from fertility treatment and ttc and turned to Reflexology treatment for some holistic treatment. She did not resort to alternative therapies to get pregnant but rather to 'clearing negative energies' to harmonise her body and get her relaxed in readiness for when she was going to restart her fertility treatment. After several month sessions her menstrual cycle went to a 28 day one from being irregular, something she had never achieved before apart from when she was on Clomid or oral contraceptives. She decided to withold her fertility treatment alittle longer of which she ended up concieving naturally and rather unexpectedly!!! It is never suggested that alternative therapies be a substitute for medical intervention and certainly without consultation from one's own Doctor first. This story merely highlights that yes, she did concieve whilst having pcos and on clomid but it also indicates that reflexology made her feel 'positive' with her inner self and concieved coincidently whilst having this therapy. I personally believe that it can certainly help in aiding relaxation, something that i have found beneficial for myself. I have not been diagnosed with pcos but i do have irregular periods that can also be heavy with possible anovulatory cycles and am waiting to see the Fertility Specialist since my partner and myself have been ttc for several months. Like many couples that are ttc, it can be very stressful indeed. I am having reflexology (which my Doctor has no objections to) to try and regulate my cycle and just because i feel i need that 'pampering' to get me relaxed. I feel that during and after the treatment, i have a feeling of euphoria. Also i have found that my last two periods have not been so heavy or clotty as they have been. Like any treatment, there is no garuntee it will work, but i have Refloxology because it is that time i can feel totally relaxed and distressed. I know that like all others that are ttc or do suffer Pcos, assisted orthodox medical treatment is possibly required, but i hope that you all can find something also to help you feel 'relaxed' to help maintain a natural equilibium of your natural bodies systems through such trying times. Regards, Anon
