false-positive pg blood testFrom: l.hall (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Jan 2001 00:24:35 -0600 (CST)
On nov. 22 went to gyn for fertility work up. from past problems he diagnosed me with PCOS. He sent me for lab work the same day. i had to wait patiently for next appt until jan. 2. went there with my husband and office staff told me they didn't have lab work. i got upset and then the doctor came in with it. confirmed the pcos dx and said my testosterone level were high. said he needed records from my old doc to go over everthing. anyways, that night he called me and said he had the rest of my lab work and that guess what- i was pregnant. i asked him many times if he was kidding and he just laughed. said it was very rare when these results werent accurate. so he wanted to send me the next day for more blood work to do more levels. i guess it was the serum levels? anyways, i was estactic to say the least. i have never had a period on my own and was told i could never have children. so, i went for this lab work, and i called the office for the result. the nurse said it was negative that the score was under 5. so the doc called me and tried to explain it but i'm still confused. the thing is when he told me i was pregnant i thought it explained the symptoms i've had since mid november: very tender breasts, always nauseated after eating, very frequent urination and also for the past 3 weeks i've had very strange "fluttering sensations" in my lower and mid extremities. so, i'm confused and wondering what in the world is going on with me. has this ever happened to anyone and then resulted in a pregnancy. thanks for your time.
