2 week old sleeping habits...From: Christy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 3 Jan 2001 14:23:08 -0600 (CST)
I know that this is not the appropriate place to post this, but I don't know of any good pedetrician forums to turn to (so, if you do, please pass it along to me!) My daughter was born two weeks ago & falls asleep quite easily & quickly in our arms, but doesn't sleep very long when we put her in the bassinet (she maybe lies quietly for fifteen minutes then cries - and is quieted once picked up). She just had her first check up and the doctor said she gained a pound and three ounces since she left the hospital. But he said something that didn't hit me until after we left the office - and it was about making sure she slept on a hard mattress. Well, we made sure we bought good, sturdy hard mattresses, but she doesn't sleep in her bassinet/crib too often! My concern is regarding her growth - will sleeping in our arms affect the growth of spinal column or her back? I see her all curled up like she was still in the womb and I can't help but wonder if it could lead to problems like scoliosis (spelled?). Is it too early to be concerned with this? Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! :)
