Re: Fast Heartbeat

I had exactly the same question for the forum when I first became pregnant - my problem was that if I didn't let my heart rate go above 140 I would hardly be exercising. I went to a cardiologist to get it checked out and he did stress ecg's and scanned my heart - and found it to be very healthy - just faster than usual! He told me that 140 is a guidline and that it would be safe for me to exercise at any rate as long as I don't push myself and get out of breath.

I found that low impact exercise helped keep the heartrate down eg cycling on low resisitance. You can still build up a really good sweat and not feel like you've "killed" yourself. I found that from 160 -170 I stopped feeling comfortable. I am now 29 weeks, and with the increase in size I have found that 150 is now my "comfort level" - I guess the heart is just working harder to pump all the extra blood around.

You will find that you can monitor yourself pretty well - as long as you don't get too out of breath and you will determine your maximum heart rate.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
