Question on Foetal developmentFrom: Andrew (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 12 Dec 2000 11:21:47 -0600 (CST)
My sister had an ultrasound last week and showed a cause for concern. She is pregnant with her third child. She has two healthy boys who were both large at birth. This baby is a girl and she is elated. My question however is based on the folloing: The doctor advised the umbilical cord from the mother to child was fine, however from the child to the placenta was showing only one artery and not the two (or three) that should be normal. he told her it was very rare but not as rare with girls as it is with boys. Can anyone please assist in providing me with information on the causes and possible effects this "abnormaility" may have on the unborn child. Thank You
