Question regaring APA and Lupus Anticoag. during prgcy. From: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 12 Dec 2000 10:04:21 -0600 (CST)
I had a stillborn daughter in Feb. 2000 at 37 weeks. (my first and only pgcy) and the cause was determined as a velamentous insertion. Before conceiving again, however my Dr. ran a few antibody tests, specifically APA and Lupus Anticoag. Antibodies. I tested negative for APA but positive for Lupus Anticoag. I was told that when I became pg. again I would need heparin injections. I became pg. in June and at 9 weeks my Dr. gave me the prescrip. for Lovenox. I had all of the tests repeated again first and EVERYTHING came back normal. This was then chalked up to a "false positive" for the first test and all was forgotten about. I was talking to someone recently who has APA and said that because this is related to an autoimmune disorder, that these tests can show FALSE NEGATIVES because it can go into an "inactive" phase and that I should still be on Heparin. Is this true? Should I have these tests repeated? I am currently 28 wks pg. She also said I should be tested for Protein C and Protein S deficiency. What are these? Thank you. Jennifer
