Re: Category B Meds??

In the 1970's the FDA at the request of a congressional committee, decided to " help" doctors and lay people by categorizing drugs in pregnancy. The problem is that the categories depend upon submissions from the drug companies and some times, there is no research in one drug but some in a similar drug and the FDA uses that. They also have some trouble with definitions. Anyway: A is known to be safely used in pregnant animals and humans, no reports of harmful effect. B There are reports of no harmful effects in pregnant animals or humans but not known to be safe. C There may be the occasional report of an abnormality in an animal especially at dosages higher than is seen in human use, there are no reports of harm in people but no good studies of safety in people.
