post-partum infection recoveryFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Dec 2000 22:31:04 -0600 (CST)
One week after my son was born in September, I was admitted to the hospital with a kidney infection (pseudomonis) and kidney stones. It was a very bad infection and I spent 10 days on Gentamiacin and Kefsol. The problem is that I still have the infection and now it is antibiotic resistant to Gentamyacin and Cipro (Since being released from the hospital, I have gone through two courses of Cipro. A CT scan showed 4 stones while I was in the hospital and at least 2 six weeks later.) My questions: Are post-partum kidney infections common? What can I do about it? What kind of doctor should I be seeing for treatment? How can I avoid getting another infection like this if I decide to have another baby? FYI, I was treated with antibiotics during labor and I had to have a transfusion after labor because of blood loss. Thank you for all your help. This infection has been a nightmare that won't go away.
