Re: Air TravelFrom: A (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Dec 2000 01:51:06 -0600 (CST)
I have been a flight attendant for 12 years and I fly primarily on international flights. I have two children and am pregnant with my third, and from the FIRST day that I was confirmed pregnant, with all of my pregnancies, I took a leave of absence. I have never been "high risk," and all of my pregnancies have been uneventful, but being in the airline industry, I have seen too many things happen. As in Dr. Braun's reply, the chances that something could go wrong are probably minimal, but "What if..." Depending on which "pond" you are crossing, Anchorage is the point of no return going to Asia, and Goose Bay, Newfounland is the point of no return going to Europe. I have landed for medical reasons in Anchorage probably 12-14 times, and Goose Bay about 5 or 6. It is up to you...you probably have bought your tickets and are very excited to go. But, as for me and all but one of my friends who fly, we chose not to during our pregnancies. Besides, I cannot imagine anything more uncomfortable than sitting on an airplane for nine hours at 27-30 weeks. UGH! Ho, Ho, Ho, and good luck!
