menstrual-like cramps at 7 weeksFrom: Alexa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 4 Dec 2000 02:39:10 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I am 7 weeks pregnant and have got menstrual-like cramps since 2 weeks. I have them for many hours in a row, then sometimes it quiets down for an hour and starts again. They are quite painful like real menstrual cramps, but not excrutiating like my real menstrual cramps. I also had two single occurences of very light spotting at 5 weeks and 6 weeks, spotting did not continue. I had an U/S and 6w4d, which showed fetus with heartbeat, everything o.k. I had three full-term pregnancies and two miscarriages, and in none of them I had this type of cramping, it really drives me crazy with worry and discomfort. My ob/gyn prescribed me Papaverin (without examination or anything, just the U/S). He told that if the pain is mild it is up to me whether to take it, if the pain is severe he is concerened and I must take it. So far I have not taken it, because I really have a high pain threshold. He said nothing about resting or refraining from sex. Is this considered a threatened miscarriage? What is causing the cramps? Could the fetus be expelled by the cramps, although it seems perfectly healthy? Would the papaverin prevent a miscarriage? Thank you very much.
